Well summer is in full swing and so are the bass here on Lake Amistad. Fishing for Largemouth Bass is very good. The water temp is 82 degrees. The hydrilla is starting to show up although it is still very scattered. The lake has gained a few inches with the rains we had a couple of weeks ago. The morning bite or dusk bite is best.

Look for schooling bass right before dusk. Most are in the 1lb range but, this can be a blast for beginners or children. Here is what is working best for me while I am out guiding on the water

Early morning I will start out with a spook- type top water bait or a pop r style bait. The bite has been different day to day. On cloudy days the top water bit is obviously better.

I am still using a drop shot to produce numbers of fish. I use a 1od wide gap worm hook rigged with a zoom trick worm. I use either a 1/4 oz or 5/8 oz drop shot weight. I am concentrating on steep points and banks very close to the main lake.

Ledges and bluffs are producing fish although the fish seem like they are starting to transition more to points. I am also starting to look for humps as the fish will move deeper and towards the hydrilla once it starts to grow fast.

I also am doing very will with an Odems 3/4 oz football head jig in various colors. Greenpumkin, red, Little Gator, and Falcon Craw have been the best colors. I am using a Strike King Rage Craw for my trailer. Match the colors according to the jig you are using.

Texas rigged Lizards, Craws, and Baby Brush Hogs are also working very well.

The middle of the day gets very hot and on some days the fishing seems to turn off. I have found that heading back to the dock and then going back our around 6 pm. can be more productive.
